Mirror Space is pleased to announce the solo exhibition At Last From December 13th, 2025 to March 9th, 2026, presents works by artist Ye Su.

Beside Keqiao in Shaoxing stands Qinwang Mountain, traditionally regarded as the place where the Qin Shi Huang(First Emperor of China) made his final survey of the seas during his last imperial tour. Shortly afterward, on the return journey to the capital Xianyang, the emperor died unexpectedly, leaving behind a short-lived Qin dynasty. Even so, the imperial structure of a centralized monarchy persisted in China for another two millennia, until it began to unravel during the late Qing dynasty—most notably with the uprising led by Qiu Jin, the heroine of Shao Xing.As an artist whose ancestral home is Shao xing,Ye Su, birth name Zhang Fan—spent his childhood in this region. Most of the works presented in this exhibition are drawn from his long-standing imaginative exploration of Qin Shi Huang’s life and the mysteries of subterranean tomb—CILING series. Making use of the distinctive layout of Jiangnan residential architecture in Mirror Space, the visual works are interspersed throughout the galleries in a sequence of shifting scenes, creating moments of paired, echoing narratives. Here, architectural space is transformed into a three-dimensional “publication” that invites intellectual reading.

With technological advancement, contemporary image media have finally gained formal freedom. Yet in the age of artificial intelligence, the mirror-like inertia of images has only intensified their ability to dissolve reality. In this exhibition, Ye Su employs AI-generated imagery, board-game design, pattern design, and other formats to construct a kind of visual ‘unofficial history,’ blending narratives of power with the artist’s personal imagination. Historical consciousness always seeks to sketch the future, while reality itself remains rooted in the present—uncertain and full of turning points.Li Si, Chancellor of Qin Dynasty once carved the “Li Si Stele” on Qinwang Mountain in Shaoxing, using lesser seal character (Xiao Zhuan) to standardize written language; yet spoken dialects across China have managed to preserve their diversity. The exhibition title, Nian Da Gao Lai, is a phonetic rendering of a Shaoxing dialect expression meaning “after all” or “at last” The phrase embodies a uniquely local sense of grounded humor and confidence. Mao Zedong once remarked in a speech to Chinese students studying in the Soviet Union: “The world is ours, and it is also yours. After all (Nian Da Gao Lai), it belongs to you.”
